Hello Twitter. Been a long time. Do we need each other? Facebook beckons; yet, I question its necessity too. Internet suicide?

You can do better than that.
I understand the importance of moving breaking news across the wire hastily. But, come on AP, you can do better than this:
By SARAH BRUMFIELD, Associated Press Writer Sarah Brumfield, Associated Press Writer – 16 mins ago
SILVER SPRING, Md. – Police shot and killed a man upset with the Discovery Channel network’s programming who took two employees and a security officer...

Analyzing Analytics Analytically
So tracking my website is fun at times, especially when job hunting - to a point. It would be nice to know who in Dallas was viewing my work on an iPhone, March 26, 2010. (I’m willing to relocate.) Analytics is a wonderful tool, but only serves as an ego check constantly reminding me of one thing: You suck at marketing yourself.
What’s more, will not book itself. Brides are not going...

I'm back
I know, I know. I literally dropped off the face of the Earth, by way of the internet. Ever since the sudden ‘release’ from the world of newsphotography and journalism, my online line presence has dwindled to a near non-existence — until now. I’m back. I’m still working full time at North End Market, although my position there has once again changed. I feel like a utility...

Batchelder Visits
The glasses. The eyebrows. Need I say more?
The Hon. William (Bill) G. Batchelder just walked into Starbucks, in Hudson. We smiled at each other.

The Re-Emergence of Quality Journalism →
My connection to the print journalism world has diminished significantly since leaving The Gazette, in February. So, I apologize in advance if this posting is in any way redundant.
What I recoginze in the post seeking journalists, is that the editors at the soon-to-be-launching Vero News, are touting freshness, post print media meltdown. Will news organizations’ re-emergence within the...

The Envelope, Please
We received our wedding invitation cards and RSVP cards via UPS yesterday, and they look fantastic! A big thank you to JakPrints in Cleveland, Ohio, for nailing the color management and reproduction. I took a big gamble as a cost-saving measure, and decided not to get a proof sent to me. Choosing easily-reproducable CMYK color does help. But, the big unavoidable variable, looming like a pink...
Rockstar?
Do I consistently choose a career path that elevates me to rock star status in the minds of others? When I meet new people and tell them what I do, whether being a news photographer, or chef, the reaction is usually the same — (something to the effect of): Oh, how cool is that! What an awesome job! What do I have to do to be a photographer, or a chef?
Internally, I want to tell them, go find...

Remembering
Uncle Mark is visiting from Schenectady, NY. He’s 93 years old, speaks six languages fluently (still), and is a Veteran of WWII. The last story he told before Liz, Alex and I had to go back home for the night was of the battle in Anzo that led him to being honored with his seventh Purple Heart. That’s right, 7. Oh, and a Bronze Star and Medal of Valor also adorn his uniform that he...
30 Minutes 'Til Showtime
Just had a great meeting with Rachel and her fiancé to go over the details of their upcoming June wedding, and now I’m passing the time doing a little online catch-up in Carribou Coffee on the square in Hudson. It’s Saturday, usually the busiest shift at the restaurant. As usual, I have a long list of things to prep, and recipés to look into before showtime. First up: make dough for 24...

'Been a while, hasn't it?
The culinary world is gradually replacing the world of news, news photography, and journalism. With no good job prospects on the horizon, and newspapers facing an uncertain future, my attention has shifted almost wholly to three things: Family, cooking, and wedding photography. My name is now on the menu at North End. It reads, “Chef de Cuisine, Andrew Dolph.”
Tonight’s dessert?...

The Drive Home
Returning home after shooting the Kleiner — Ross wedding, I was eastbound on 224 just past Wadsworth, when I came up on a woman driving erratically in an SUV. She was braking frequently, all the while flashing her lights, as if pacing a car next to her. After a few minutes I decided that I was going to pass her. We were both in the fast lane, but only going about 60. Then, just out of the corner...

The Speech the NAA Should Hear
The Newspaper Association of America is meeting in San Diego this week and they’re preaching up at their own choir loft with angry, self-righteous fire and brimstone about their plight. Today, Google CEO Eric Schmidt will address them, but he’ll be polite because that’s the way he is and because there’ll be a few hundred aging but armed publishers with blunderbusses...
