The Drive Home

Returning home after shooting the Kleiner — Ross wedding, I was eastbound on 224 just past Wadsworth, when I came up on a woman driving erratically in an SUV. She was braking frequently, all the while flashing her lights, as if pacing a car next to her. After a few minutes I decided that I was going to pass her. We were both in the fast lane, but only going about 60. Then, just out of the corner of my eye I caught something that just wasn’t right. I glanced over to my left into the westbound fast lane, and there was a car occupied by an elderly couple, traveling in the wrong direction! Adrenaline started to flow like water out of a broken main. I grabbed my flashlight and attempted to gain their attention. Several cars swerved to avoid them. Just as I thought it was all over, two cops successfully stopped the couple.

I’ve never been more scared for someone as I was then.
